Tariff Proposals to be effective from 1st August, 1996.
No increase in fares of Second Class Ordinary and Second Class Mail/Express.
No increase in fares of monthly and quarterly season ticket for Second Class and First Class.
No increase upto 200 kms in existing fares of Sleeper class Mail/Express and ordinary trains.
Fares to be raised by 5 per cent beyond the distance of 200 kms for Sleeper Class Mail/Express and ordinary trains.
10 per cent increase for all distances in respect of the following classes of travel:-
Air Conditioned First Class.
Air Conditioned 2-Tier Sleeper.
Air-Conditioned 3-Tier Sleeper.
Air Conditioned Chair Car and,
First Class Ordinary and Mail/Express
The fares of Rajdhani Express including August Kranti Express and Shatabdi trains raised by 10 per cent.
Parcel and luggage rates to be rationalised by replacing the existing scale of rates for all commodities.
No increase in the existing newspaper and magazine rates.
Proposals in regard to Freight Rates
Freight rates of all commodities raised by 10 per cent for all distances. Following commodities of mass consumption are exempted:
Foodgrains for Public Distribution System, Edible Salt, Edible Oil, Hydrogenated Oil, Vegetable Oil Refined, Sugar, Fruits and Vegetables, Gur, Shakhar and Jaggery, Chemical Manures, Organic Manures, Fodder and other Oil Cakes, Oil Seeds, Kerosene, Liquified Petroleum Gas and Livestock.
Minimum Distance for charge to be revised from 75 km to 100 km.
