Number of accidents reduced to 398 in 1995-96 from 717 in 1985-86. Accidents Per Million Train Kilometers also reduced from 1.3 in 1985-86 to 0.61 in 1995-96.

Modern communication facilities being provided to help the driver and guard in case of an accident to contact with other trains and stations within a radius of 5 kilometers.
Safety related staff being trained from time to time and Simulators also being used.
No further unmanned level crossing to be opened.
Unmanned level crossings to be converted into manned level crossings on a planned basis with the help of the State Governments.
