HIGHLIGHTS OF RAILWAY BUDGET, 1996-97
PART - I
Performance in 1995-96
Originating loading 390 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic as against 365 million tonnes in 1994-95.
Record incremental loading of 25 million tonnes.
Increase of 123 million of originating passengers over the previous year.
Full payment of Dividend to General Exchequer.
'Excess' of Rs.2318 cr. as per Revised Estimates likely to be Rs.2577 cr.
Gross Traffic Receipts expected to be Rs.22241 cr. as compared to Rs.22175 cr. in Revised Estimates.
Strict control on Ordinary Working Expenses. Likely savings over Rs.14590 cr. in Revised Estimates.
Operating Ratio improves from 84.6% R.E. to 82.5% in 1995-96.
Various Railway Fund balances likely to increase by Rs.759 cr.
A credit balance of Rs.908 cr. of net drawal of funds with the Reserve Bank of India.

Target of loading of Revenue earning freight traffic fixed at 410 million tonnes.
Passenger Traffic estimated to go up by 4% over 1995-96 Revised Estimates.

Rajdhani Express between New Delhi-Patna via Lucknow
Rewa-Bhopal Express
Bikaner-Merta Road Link Express to Howrah
Bangalore-Hubli Intercity Express (in lieu of Shatabdi Express)
Kalka-Shimla (NG) Shivalik Deluxe Express
Jaipur-Madras Weekly Express
Delhi-Ahmedabad Ashram Express (BG)
Delhi-Ahmedabad Mail (BG)
Ahmedabad-Jodhpur-Bikaner Express
Secunderabad/Guntur-Vasco-Da-Gama Express (via Dronachellam after gauge conversion).
Guwahati-Tinsukia Express
Patna-Kurla Tri-Weekly Express
Howrah-Bolpur-Rampurhat Express (By cancelling Rampurhat- Barddhaman Passenger)
Ramnagar-Moradabad Link Express to Delhi
